Chapter 3: Ah Teck
Doesnt Want To Eat Ice Cream
My name is Tan Ah Teck and I am an honest man.
Yesterday evening when Ah Teck was about to tuck into his delicious
instant noodles he heard someone knocking at his door. (Ah Teck got
rid of the doorbell after watching a Hong Kong movie where the
whole house exploded after someone pressed on the doorbell. Ah Teck
is not a risk taker.)
Who could that be? He wondered. Ah Teck does not have many friends
and after his mother died two years ago none of his relatives even
bother to call. (Actually they stop keeping in touch after Ah
Tecks father disappeared many years ago. Ah Teck had not received
any ang pao for many years. Poor Ah Teck.)
When he opened the door he saw this pretty young girl with the
smile of an angel standing right there.
Uncle, do you want to buy any ice cream? asked the girl in her
sweetest voice pointing to the container beside her.
Er no, I am having my instant noodle.
It is very cheap, $2 for one ice cream only, said the girl
smiling sweetly. (Little does she know that $2 can last Ah Teck for
at least two days.)
Sorry, but I really dont want. I have already cooked my instant
noodles, said Ah Teck looking back at the bowl of instant noodles
on the table.
You can enjoy the ice cream after your dinner mah."
But I really dont want, said Ah Teck anxiously because he knows
that his instant noodles is getting cold. (He likes his instant
noodles warm, not cold.)
Dont be like that lah uncle, buy one from me lah, I come all the
way from Bedok you know, pleaded the young girl trying to look as
pitiful as possible. (More like trying to act cute if you ask
me)
After a few seconds of silence, If you let me kiss you and come in
to have dinner with me, I will buy one ice cream from you, said Ah
Teck leaning his face towards the girl.
You siao ah you!!! Knn cb!!! $%#@!!! Pervert!!! #@%*#!!! screamed
the girl shouting more vulgarities as she dashed towards the
lift.
I have known Ah Teck for many years. He is really a kind and honest
man. But he is also a lonely man. I dont know what made him said
that. Maybe he is tired of having his meals alone, maybe he misses
his mother. I really dont know. There are just too many Ah Teck
out there.
